Knepper:

Sustainability considered at every stage

Sustainability is firmly anchored in the Knepper Group's DNA. With concrete measures and innovations, we assume social responsibility, focus on environmentally friendly logistics and are committed to a future that conserves resources. From supporting social projects to construction waste processing, concrete recycling and land revitalization to investments in modern technologies - at the Knepper Group, we show that sustainability and economic success can go hand in hand.

Social commitment

Donation for the Kleine Strolche children's home

Instead of giving Christmas presents to business partners, we have decided in the past two years to donate the entire gift budget to the Kleine Strolche children's home, where severely traumatized children are cared for. There are currently around 70 places available for children from all over Germany. Babies and toddlers who have been taken into care can come to rest here and receive intensive care. Sibling groups can feel safe together and mothers and their children are accompanied together.

Among other things, our donations go towards the "Kleine Baum-Strolche" initiative, in which various environmental protection projects are carried out with and for the children on a 15,000 m² nature plot.

Certification as a "family-friendly company in the district of Soest"

We have held the "Family-friendly company in the district of Soest" certificate since 2022. In April 2024, following a successful recertification, we were recognized for our continuous efforts in the area of family-friendly working conditions. As a family business, we attach great importance to the needs of our employees and offer flexible solutions in the areas of mobility, health, family and leisure.

This award motivates us to continue creating a working environment that not only supports our employees, but also their families.

For a green future

Innovative partnerships and sustainable projects

We are proud to make an active contribution to promoting an environmentally friendly and future-oriented circular economy through innovative partnerships and sustainable projects. Our commitment ranges from participation in pioneering projects to long-term collaborations with start-ups to develop and implement resource-saving solutions.

Our commitment at a glance:

  • DeConDB project: Together with RWTH Aachen University and our expertise, we support the development of innovative solutions for the sustainable use of secondary raw materials in the sense of a circular economy.
  • Soest district hydrogen alliance: We are driving forward the use of hydrogen as an environmentally friendly energy source, including the construction of a hydrogen filling station on our company premises.
  • DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) membership: We are committed to the sustainable design of future-proof living spaces. This is what we stand for with sustainable deconstruction, sustainable disposal and our innovative construction waste recycling.
  • Membership of DEBV (German Brownfield Association): We position ourselves for environmentally conscious real estate projects and the sustainable development of brownfield sites. We not only realize renaturation projects in the context of urban mining, but are also committed to the "cradle to cradle" concept.
  • Partnership with re:unit: By becoming a licensed partner of re:unit, we promote the reuse of used plasterboard that we "harvest" from construction sites. In this way, we support the conservation of resources through sustainable recycling.

Sustainable logistics

The Knepper Group invests in electromobility with the e Actros 400 from Mercedes-Benz Trucks

We focus on future-oriented logistics and invest specifically in electromobility. By integrating the all-electric e Actros 400 from Mercedes-Benz Trucks into our fleet, we are taking a major step towards sustainable transportation. The e Actros 400 not only brings ecological benefits, but also economic savings by reducing CO₂ emissions and impressing with its efficiency in daily operation.

  • Use of the e Actros 400: The all-electric truck from Mercedes-Benz runs emission-free and quietly, ideal for container and distribution transport in urban areas.
  • Toll exemption and lower operating costs: By using e-trucks, we save around 25 euros a day on toll charges, which pays off in the long term.
  • Energy efficiency: The e Actros 400 returns after a working day with 20 to 30% charge remaining and could even be used in two-shift operation.
  • Charging infrastructure: We use a mobile fast charging station at our depot and are planning to expand the charging infrastructure in the long term.

With these measures, we can show how technological innovations and sustainability can be successfully integrated into logistics operations - for environmentally friendly and future-proof logistics.

Sustainability through LED square lighting

Our path to greater energy efficiency

A thorough analysis of our energy consumption revealed that the square lighting was one of the top 3 energy consumers in the company. It was particularly noticeable that a large part of our lighting had not yet been converted to LED. This led to the birth of our project: the complete conversion to LED technology. Our commitment to sustainability requires a significant initial investment, but one that will pay off in the long term.

The LED conversion is only the first step. We remain constantly vigilant to identify further potential to reduce our environmental footprint and further increase efficiency within the company. Together, we are shaping a more sustainable future - for our company, our industry and our planet.

Initial situation and goal achieved

Current status: We see potential for improvement here

  • a mixture of conventional lamps and LED lamps
  • high energy consumption
  • regular operating time

Target status: our vision

  • complete switch to LED lamps
  • significantly reduced energy consumption
  • consistent operating time with improved lighting quality

Environmental impact: The changeover shows impressive results

  1. Energy savings: Significantly reduced energy consumption and annualCO2 savings
  2. Longevity: LED luminaires have a far longer lifespan and lower failure rates
  3. Future-proof: LEDs will become the new standard and safeguard us against the phase-out of conventional light sources
  4. Industry pioneer: strengthening our position as a sustainable company in a resource-conserving industry
